MINOR INJURIES

You do not always need to attend the A&E department for treatment to minor injuries.  The following injuries may be able to treated at the surgery or at Urgent Treatment Centres:

If you are losing a lot of blood, or think you have broken a bone, or you have experienced a loss of consciousness, you should go straight to hospital (University Hospital, Coventry telephone 024 7696 4000 or George Eliot Hospital, Nuneaton telephone 024 7635 1351)

At two months old:

At three months old:

• Diphtheria, tetanus, pertussis (whooping cough), polio and Haemophilus influenzae type b (Hib) (DTaP/IPV/Hib) - one injection
• Rotavirus - by mouth
• Meningitis C (meningococcal group C) (MenC) - one injection

At four months old:

• Diphtheria, tetanus, pertussis (whooping cough), polio and Haemophilus influenzae type b (Hib) (DTaP/IPV/Hib) - one injection
• Pneumococcal infection - pneumococcal conjugate vaccine (PCV) - one injection
• Meningitis B (meningococcal group B) (MenB) - one injection

Around 12 to 13 months old:

• Haemophilus influenzae type b (Hib) and meningitis C (Hib/MenC) - one injection
• Measles, mumps and rubella (German measles) (MMR) - one injection
• Pneumococcal infection - pneumococcal conjugate vaccine (PCV) - one injection
• Meningitis B (meningococcal group B) (MenB) - one injection

Two to six years old:

• Influenza (each year from September) - by nasal spray

Three years four months to five years old (pre-school):

• Diphtheria, tetanus, pertussis (whooping cough) and polio (DTaP/IPV) - one injection
• Measles, mumps and rubella (German measles) (MMR) - one injection

Girls aged 12 to 13 years old:

• Cervical cancer (HPV) vaccination, two doses given 6 to 12 months apart - one injection each time

Around 14 years old:

• Diphtheria, tetanus and polio (Td/IPV) - one injection
• Meningitis A, C, W, Y (meningococcal groups A, C, W, Y) (MenACWY) - one injection

If you require any vaccinations relating to foreign travel you need to discuss your travel arrangements with the practice nurse.  This will include which countries and areas within countries that you are visiting to determine what vaccinations are required.  There is further information about countries and vaccinations required on the links below.

Not all vaccinations are provided free of charge by NHS, so please check what you need a few months before you travel.

It is important to make this contact  as early as possible  - at least 6 weeks before you travel - an appointment may be required with the practice nurse to  receive the vaccinations.  These vaccines have to be ordered as they are not a stock vaccine.  Your second appointment needs to be at least 2 weeks before you travel to allow the vaccines to work.

Some travel vaccines are ordered on a private prescription and these incur a charge over and above the normal prescription charge.  This is because not all travel vaccinations are included in the services provided by the NHS.

Contraceptive services:

At the surgery we offer various forms of contraception.  All nurses and doctors can offer advice on these. 

Should you wish to consider long-acting contraceptives, please make an appointment to discuss these.  You will be then placed on a waiting list and contacted when an appointment becomes available.  We currently have a 4-6 week wait for implants/coils/prolapse pessaries.

Sexual Health Clinics

Are provided by Coventry and Warwickshire Sexual Health Hub and you can attend any location.  They provide sexual health screening services and testing and treatment, as well as contraceptive services and are Free of Charge.

Minor operation clinics are undertaken by Dr Pywell. 

The clinics are only on certain dates and need to be booked in advance.

You will require a routine consultation first and then will be placed on the waiting list if suitable.

Joint Injections

These are undertaken by Dr Pywell and Dr Biggs

You will require a routine consultation first and then will be placed on the waiting list if suitable.

Patient Information Joint Injection

We run health checks throughout the year.  You are normally invited for an NHS health check after your 40th birthday. 

You don't have to wait for this if you have any concerns.

Please call and the reception team can arrange an appointment for you 

We are pleased to announce that Tracey Pittaway offers smoking cessation clinics at the surgery.  Please make a routine appointment with Tracey for support.  Should the timing of these appointments not be suitable for you, can still get support from local pharmacists.

We offer NHS Blood Tests on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, there may be adhoc appointments available on request if these days are not suitable.

These are for GP requested or consultant requested blood tests, but you MUST have the form with you. 

These appointments are available for registered and non-registered patients.

Results: are available through the NHS app.  We will not receive, nor discuss hospital requested results.  These are also available on your app and the hospital team will discuss this with you as needed.
